Faux Ice Cream Cones!

WOW-wee!  I finally made something that I cut out of my Parenting magazine?!?

{I think I deserve an award} I kid, I kid.

After Avery's pre-school today & since she refused to nap, I thought this would be a good time to give these Faux Ice Cream Cones a try.
{She wants lots of Marshmallows at her "4 birthday party" so if your kid is in attendance, we will be making these}.
{just saying}.

Make "Vanilla Ice Cream"
1) In a microwave safe bowl, heat one 10-oz package marshmallows and 3 Tbsp butter on high in 30-second intervals until melted, 2 to 3 minutes; stir until smooth.
2) Add 6 cups of puffed rice cereal & stir well to coat evenly.  Set the mixture aside until cool enough to handle.
3) With slight wet hands {VERY IMPORTANT OR IT WILL STICK MORE THAN PB}, divide mixture to form twelve 2 1/2 inch balls.
{we only made 6 total balls; 5 individuals and one double stacker}.
4) Place the balls on a cookie sheet and chill for 10 minutes.

How To Assemble:
1) Microwave white or milk chocolate chips according to package directions.
2)Dip the edge of an ice cream cone into the chocolate coating about 1/2 inch of the rim.
3) Turn the cone upright and let the chocolate drip down the sides {didn't really work for us so I coated the sides some more=not as pretty as magazine picture}.
4) Carefully, yet firmly, press one ball onto the cone.
5) Use 1 tsp of the melted chocolate as glue to stack more ice cream scoops if desired {icing worked okay too}.
6) Place cone in a narrow-mounted glass to help hold it upright and chill for 10 minutes, or until set.
7) Decorate as desired.
**Next time we will use honey and more decorations for pretty decor and easier sticking for kiddos.

I hope you have fun making these with your little ones.  Avery had a blast and was able to show both her cooking skills & artistic side all in one fun activity!

XOXO,
Kate

  1. Really, Really, Really -- YUMMY! Was super fun to watch the lil' miss put them together too -- though, at times, she was more interested in the toppings ;)
